We’ll pick you up directly from your hotel in the morning and hit the road toward the Rif Mountains, heading to Morocco’s famed blue city. Discover the Blue Pearl: Chefchaouen: After a scenic drive through northern Morocco, we’ll arrive in the charming mountain town of Chefchaouen. Stroll through the tranquil blue-painted streets, adorned with greenery and potted flowers. Take a peaceful walk along the riverbanks, explore local artisan shops, and enjoy a refreshing glass of mint tea at Plaza Uta el Hamam, the heart of the medina. Scenic Transfer to Fes: In the afternoon, we’ll continue our drive through the Moroccan countryside toward Fes. Upon arrival, we’ll guide you to your traditional riad for check-in.
From Fes to the Mountains: After breakfast in Fes, we’ll begin our journey toward the Sahara by driving through the Middle Atlas Mountains. Our first stop is in Ifrane, a neat and alpine-inspired town known as “Morocco’s Little Switzerland.” Here, you’ll notice a surprising European charm. Meet the Monkeys in Azrou: Next, we’ll stop in the cedar forests of Azrou, home to the endangered Barbary macaques. Stretch your legs with a short walk under the tall cedar trees and enjoy the chance to interact with these playful primates. Mountain Lunch in Midelt: We then continue toward Midelt, a small town situated between the Middle and High Atlas ranges. We’ll stop here for lunch at a local restaurant, surrounded by striking mountain views. Drive Through the Ziz Valley and an Optional Fossil Stop in Erfoud: The journey resumes with a drive through the spectacular Ziz Valley. Along the way, we’ll pause for photos of the lush palm groves and dramatic red rock gorges. An optional stop in Erfoud is available to visit local fossil workshops. Enter the Sahara at Merzouga: By late afternoon, we’ll arrive in Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara. Here, we’ll switch to camelback and trek across the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi, timing our ride to catch the dramatic desert sunset. Unforgettable Night in the Desert: After reaching your tented camp, settle in for a traditional Moroccan dinner under the stars. Enjoy Berber music around the campfire and drift off to sleep in the heart of the dunes.
Morning Magic in the Sahara: We’ll begin the day before dawn to witness the breathtaking sunrise over the golden Erg Chebbi dunes. Afterward, enjoy a camel ride back across the sands to Merzouga village, where breakfast awaits. Explore History and Markets in Rissani: Upon leaving the desert camp, our first stop is Rissani, a town steeped in history as the birthplace of Morocco’s ruling Alaouite dynasty. We’ll explore its lively market (especially vibrant on market days), where locals trade everything from spices to livestock. Walk Among the Cliffs of Todra Gorge: We then head north into the rugged High Atlas to discover the stunning Todra Gorge. Carved by the Todgha River over millennia, these towering limestone cliffs reach heights of over 300 meters. Arrive at Dades Valley: By late afternoon, we’ll arrive in the beautiful Dades Valley, dubbed the “Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs.” You’ll check in at a cozy riad nestled among the red canyons and rolling hills. Enjoy dinner and relax for the night in this quiet mountain retreat.
Morning Through the Valley of Roses and Skoura: We’ll begin our final day with a scenic drive through the fragrant Rose Valley, especially vibrant in spring. Then, we’ll pass the palm-lined oases of Skoura, dotted with centuries-old kasbahs, before heading deeper into Morocco’s cinematic south. Exploring the Cinematic Ouarzazate: Our next destination is Ouarzazate, often dubbed the “Hollywood of Africa.” Here, we’ll visit the Atlas Film Studios, where movies like Gladiator and The Mummy were filmed. We’ll also explore the Taourirt Kasbah, once a seat of local power. Ait Benhaddou: A Step Back in Time: Midday brings us to the iconic Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO-listed ksar (fortified village) that rises like a mirage from the desert floor. We’ll walk its narrow alleys, climb to the granary for panoramic views, and learn how this ancient site became a backdrop for many productions. Crossing the High Atlas Mountains: In the afternoon, we’ll ascend the dramatic Tizi n’Tichka Pass, winding through the High Atlas Mountains.
