Day 2

Full-Day Marrakech Sightseeing

Morning Heritage Walk: The day begins with a guided tour of Marrakech's historical core. Our first stop is the Koutoubia Mosque, a soaring symbol of 12th-century Islamic architecture. We then dive deeper into the Medina, focusing on its diverse markets, which include spice sellers, leather artisans, and craft workshops. Discover Marrakech's Royal History: Next, we discover the Saadian Tombs, a remarkable and beautiful 16th-century burial site that was hidden for centuries until 1917, showcasing the dynasty's fine craftsmanship. We continue to the Bahia Palace, a sprawling 19th-century masterpiece that reflects the immense wealth and authority of the Grand Viziers who once resided within its vast, richly decorated courtyards and rooms. Islamic Learning and Gardens: In the afternoon, we visit the Ben Youssef Madrasa, once the largest and most significant Islamic learning institution in Morocco. Finally, we head to the gorgeous Majorelle Gardens, a botanical creation by French artist Jacques Majorelle over four decades, famous for its majestic flora, peaceful courtyards, and striking bright blue structures.

Day 3

Journey from Marrakech to Dades Gorges

Mountain Passage and Panoramic Views: We depart Marrakech early and drive through the magnificent High Atlas Mountains. The journey takes us across the Tizi n'Tichka Pass, the highest mountain pass in North Africa, which soars to an elevation of 2,260 meters. Cinematic Landscapes at Ait Benhaddou and Ouarzazate: Our next significant stop is the UNESCO-listed site of Ait Benhaddou, an ancient ksar (fortified village) and a stunning example of traditional Moroccan earthen architecture. This former caravan stop has been featured as a backdrop in countless films. We continue to Ouarzazate, known as the Gateway to the Sahara and often dubbed the Hollywood of Africa due to its film industry. We will also catch a glimpse of the imposing Kasbah Taourirt, a structure that historically belonged to the powerful Glaoui family. Arrival at Dades Gorges: Finally, we travel to the Dades Gorges, a spectacular river canyon. This area, often called the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs, is known for its unique rock formations, towering cliffs, and ancient fortifications. Be sure to look for the distinct Monkey Toes rock formation.

Day 4

Journey from Dades Valley to Merzouga

Stop at the Breathtaking Todra Gorge: The fourth day begins with a journey from Dades Gorges toward the Todra Gorge. This natural region is defined by a series of dramatic limestone river canyons, featuring sheer cliffs that climb nearly 300 meters high. Through Erfoud and into the Desert: Next, we pass through Erfoud, an oasis town where we will stop for lunch. This region is famous for its date palm groves and its rich deposits of ancient fossils, clear evidence of a prehistoric sea that once covered the area. Camel Trek in Merzouga and Desert Night: We arrive at the edge of the vast Erg Chebbi dunes near the village of Merzouga. Our desert experience starts as we mount camels and trek into the Sahara, timed perfectly to witness the stunning desert sunset. We spend the night at your desert camp, enjoying a delicious Moroccan dinner around a campfire.

Day 5

Merzouga Area Exploration

Morning with Berber Communities: The day begins by watching the memorable desert sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes. After breakfast at the camp, we visit the local Berber village of Khamlia to experience and listen to the unique, spiritual rhythms of their Gnawa music. Exploring the Black Desert: Following the village visit, we set off to explore the Black Desert. This lesser-known area is characterized by its volcanic rock formations, rugged, stark terrain, and striking geological contrasts. Return to Merzouga: Before heading back, we make a brief stop at Mefes Town, a small, abandoned settlement that was once a mining site for lead and other minerals. The day concludes as we return to your chosen accommodation in Merzouga.

Day 6

Merzouga to Ouarzazate via Rissani

Stop at Rissani on the Way to Ouarzazate: The sixth day involves departing Merzouga for Ouarzazate. Our first stop is Er-Rissani, a historically vital town that once served as the Tafilalet region's capital. We explore its vibrant souk, which is particularly bustling on certain market days. Continue through Alnif and Nkob: The journey proceeds to Alnif, a small desert town widely known for its rich paleontological sites. The rugged terrain leads us to Nkob, a Berber village nestled within the Saghro Mountains. Journey through the Draa Valley and Stop at Agdz: As we approach the Draa Valley, Morocco's longest valley, you will see its extensive date palm oases and ancient ksars. We will make a short stop at Agdz, a town situated at the entrance to the Draa Valley. Arrive at Ouarzazate: Finally, we arrive back in Ouarzazate by evening. You will check into your riad and enjoy the final night before your week-long Moroccan circuit concludes.
